How we used the thinking skill: |
What is Rajneeshpuram? |
The thinking skill for project 3 is reasoning. Reasoning is using research or evidence support or argue against an idea. Reasoning can also be used to make logical connections between facts. We used reasoning to make connections on our mind map between events and facts and we also used reasoning to come up with factors that caused the events that occurred in Rajneeshpuram.
|
Rajneesh was a mentor that taught people new ways to meditate, he had new ideas and taboo practices that often caused controversy. As his ashram in Pune, India gained popularity it quickly outgrew the space. So

Global
Process
In our process we started with research, organized the research, drafted the mind map, made the mind map, and finally we used reasoning to make connection in our research.
Research
|
To the left are the notes that Brooke and I took. We decided to get as much information on Rajneeshpuram and the Rajneshee people, then we researched more specific topics that we needed for our mindmap.

Organizing Research
|
To the left are the notes we took that are organized into several categories.
We had categories like childhood, education, behavior, family and culture for the major people we researched. We also broke down major elements of Rajneesh's and Gandhi's ideology/teachings. Our larger categories include the Oregon ashram, violence, deceit, conflict of power, and immigration fraud, The purpose of these categories was so it was easier to explain our connections between the research. |
Mind map
|
To the left are some of the drafts and outline for our mind map we made. In the second slide show there are pictures of our more detailed min map based. While making that outline we brainstormed categories and information we research to put on the mind map. This was an important step for us to be able to see our information before we started to make a digital mind map.
Below are two downloadable versions of our final mind map. Some important things to know are the red arrows represent larger connections that we made and the numbers on the main category boxes corresponded to our numbered source list. (Use the link to go to the mind map then click the "note" icon to see the explanation or click any box connected to a red arrow)

Portfolio/Art
|
A lot of the research we used for art was also used for global studies. But in addition to that we also researched iconography, diptychs, and triptychs for inspiration for our final art pieces. To the left are some notes we took.
There is also a slideshow for the drafts and sketches made for the final pieces.
