How I used the thinking skill: |
What is a Yakshi? |
After researching my topic I used synthesis in my global studies to create new avatar that combines the three Hindu gods, Shiva, Brahma, and Vishnu, with a Yakshi fertility figure. For the portfolio/art portion I illustrated the figures. To use synthesis in my final product I used the major physical charactersistics to create the new avatars.
|
A Yakshi is a spirit that is often used as decoration of buildings. It symbolizes fertility and growth. One major characteristic of the Yakshi is the exaggerated hips, breasts, and waist. Another major characteristic is the tribhanga pose it is depicted in. A tribhanga pose is an unrealistic pose that shows movement.

Global
Research
The research I collected was about the Yakshi figures and the three Hindu gods Vishnu Shiva and Brahma. I focused on what their purposes where, what they symbolized, and what the objects that they are often depicted with.
Organization
I organized my information so that I could sort through the useful research, I then put it in categories so I was aware of all the information I collected. This is an important step because it allows me to visualize the information that is able to work together. Some categories I used are "Yakshi", "Vishnu", "Brahma", "Worship", and "the Background of Hinduism".

Final Product
For my final global studies product I created two new gods. I synthesized the major characteristics of the Yakshi figure and the Hindu gods to develop a new Hindu god. To do this a listed a few questions that would build the character. These questions include what is their name, what is the purpose of their objects and what do they mean, what is their transportation to the human world, what messages do they want to send to people, and how were they created. If you'd like to see the thorough explanation download the pdf below.

Portfolio
Research
Before i researched the three Hindu gods, I spent some time researching the Yakshi figures to learn about their purpose, meaning, and history.

Drafts
I started the drafting process for Ira and Daksha there were many versions of the figure, faces, composition ect..

Materials and process
For my final product I layered a translucent paper over a piece of water color paper. I used acrylic paint and printed paper to create layers on my two Hindu gods. The accessories, object and physical characteristics of Daksha and Ira are major elements that came from the Yakshi figure, Vishnu, Shiva, or Brahma.
