What I learned:
Using the Thinking Skill:
The thinking skill for this project was synthesis. To complete this project I focused on synthesizing the ideology behind police abolition the origin of police abolition, reasons to support police abolition, and police abolition in practice into a collaged piece. In this piece in addition to synthesizing this information, I also research political activist art to take inspiration from and work into my final product.
SIMW
For SIMW I synthesized different quotes and facts so my research was reflected in my final product. Some of these include quotes like,"Many policing problems plagued the new cities of America. They included controlling certain classes, including slaves and Indians; maintaining order..." by Mahesh Nalla and Graeme Newman, facts like 60% of domestic violence victims do not want police to be involved and people with mental illness are 16 times more likely to be killed by police, and a timeline that shows the experience of Black Americans from slavery to present day. I included these pieces of text to help convey that police have impacted POC and Black Americans for most of American history and that the problems with police go beyond POC and Black communities.

Portfolio
For portfolio I looked at artists like Shaye Gregan and Emory Douglas for inspiration while developing my product. Some things that I liked from both artists were the solid colors that created a flat look to the work. While looking through Emory Douglas's work something I wanted to try and work into my work were the thick black lines and stripes that are often found in the back of his pieces. Somethings I took inspiration from in Shaye Gregan's work were the simple shapes to express parts of a human figure. My work did not end up as loose and "messy" as his but i really enjoyed the large eyes and scribbles in his work.
